Your file never leaves this tab
Not a promise in a privacy policy: the way the tools are built makes uploading impossible.
Runs on your device
Every tool works in a worker inside this browser tab. There is no server step to wait for.
Nothing is uploaded
The tool pages are not allowed to open a connection that could carry your file. Your browser enforces that, not us.
Nothing to clean up
Close the tab and the working copy is gone from memory. No account, no history, no copy on a server.
Check it yourself
You don't have to take our word for it.
How to check
- Open your browser's developer tools (F12, or ⌥⌘I on a Mac) and choose the Network tab.
- Run any tool on a PDF on this page.
- Read the list: the page loads its own scripts (and, for OCR, the language file you picked). Nothing that carries your file is ever sent.
Three steps, no upload
No account, no app, no waiting for a server.
- 1
Drop a PDF
Choose a file or drop it anywhere on the page. It opens right here, in this tab.
- 2
Work on it here
Pick a tool. The work runs on your device, so even big files don't travel anywhere.
- 3
Save or hand it off
Save the result, or pass it straight to Send or Beam to share it encrypted.
DocuChan PDF tools vs typical online PDF sites
Many online PDF sites upload your file to their servers, and some ask for an account or a paid plan before you can download the result.
| Question | DocuChan PDF tools | Typical online PDF site |
|---|---|---|
| Is your file uploaded? | No, it is processed in your browser | Usually, to their servers |
| Account needed? | No | Often, to download or for bigger files |
| Trial that turns into a subscription? | No, it's free and asks for no payment details | Common |
| Watermark on the result? | No | Sometimes, on free plans |
| File size limits | 150 MB per file, 500 pages; your device's memory sets the rest | Often lower on free plans |
A general picture, not a review of any one site. Read a site's terms before you upload a sensitive document.
Questions, answered
Are my files uploaded?
No. The PDF is read and changed by code running in this browser tab. The tool pages block network connections for file processing, so the document, its pages and any password you type stay on your device.
How large can the PDF be?
Up to 150 MB per file, 300 MB in total when you work with several files, and 500 pages. Very large or complex documents also depend on your device's memory.
Is it free? How do you make money?
Yes, it's free: no account, no watermark, no trial and no subscription. DocuChan doesn't make money from the tools. Companies that want to run DocuChan on their own servers can buy a self-host licence.
Does OCR work in my language?
Text recognition reads English, Japanese, Russian, Uzbek (Latin and Cyrillic) and Spanish. It works best on clear, straight scans of printed text; handwriting and blurry scans come out poorly.
How good is PDF to Word?
Good for PDFs made from documents: text, headings, lists, bold and italic, pictures and page breaks come back as editable Word content. Complex layouts and tables may need small fixes in Word, and scanned pages need OCR first, which the tool offers.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The tools work in current phone browsers. Very large PDFs and long OCR runs are slower on a phone because everything runs on the phone itself.
Is redaction real, or just covering?
Real. Pages with marks are rebuilt from scratch as images, so the text, hidden layers and annotations underneath are removed from the file, not just covered.
What's the difference between Edit and Redact?
Edit (cover and replace) puts a box over old text and new text on top. The old text is still in the file underneath and can be copied. Redact removes what you mark for good. Use Redact for anything sensitive.
